The Cascadia Flag is copyright by image creator Alexander Baretich and his company the Cascadian Flag Cooperative, Inc. This copyright is managed and defended in partnership with the Department of Bioregion and the Cascadia Flag Trust, a 501(c)3 nonprofit program to steward the bioregional symbol and ensure that the flag creator is compensated for commercial use, and the symbol is not coopted by corporations, groups or individuals not representing bioregional values.

Non Commercial Use:

The flag is available for noncommercial, educational, journalistic use, as well as for noncommercial use by individuals, causes and groups within the Cascadian bioregional movement, or that embody bioregional principles granted you follow the following rules:

For educational and noncommercial uses:

  • Attribution — You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use.
  • NonCommercial — You may not use the material for commercial purposes.
  • ShareAlike — If you remix, transform, or build upon the material, you must distribute your contributions under the same license as the original.
  • DoNotCopyright — Do not host the image on private services or platforms that impose their own copyright on uploaded material.

Commercial Use:

The flag is available for commercial use by individuals, causes and groups within the Cascadian bioregional movement, or that embody bioregional principles with a commercial use agreement. Alexander and the Cascadia Flag Trust maintain a publicly available list of approved sellers, as well as minimum environmental and ethical standards when producing Cascadian merchandise.

For Commercial Use:

  • Permission  — You must get appropriate permission to use the Cascadia Flag by filling out our request form, or completing a commercial use agreement.
  • Attribution — You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use.
  • Minimum Quality Standards — You must meet basic quality standards for Cascadia merchandise. Permission must be granted for exceptions.
  • ShareAlike — If you remix, transform, or build upon the material, you must distribute your contributions under the same license as the original.
  • DoNotCopyright — Do not host the image on private services or platforms that impose their own copyright.
  • Do not wholesale — Unless explicitly stated, a commercial use agreement is for direct retail sales, either online or in person of the party requesting the commercial use agreement.

Alexander and the Cascadia Flag Trust reserve the right to revoke permissions for use if they deem content to be out line with the intent of the flag.
